B.O.L.L.O.C.K.S. to Imposter Syndrome

Imposter Syndrome – let’s resolve it together

Whilst most people are familiar with the terminology and symptoms of ‘Imposter Syndrome’ are you aware of just how many business leaders suffer from it?

These figures taken from a previous post tell a rather shocking story. So isn’t it time we do something to tackle this problem once and for all?

In December 2022, 500 UK-based leaders took part in a survey conducted by Nerd Wallet. They were invited to share their understanding and experience of Imposter Syndrome.

·      78% had suffered from impostor syndrome.
·      59% had considered leaving their job because of it.
·      52% said it was affecting their ability to lead their business or team.
·      47% admitted they were currently suffering.

It’s a problem that is crying out for our attention. So, what can we do about it? Is there really a way to tackle and resolve imposter syndrome?

Yes there is. And it’s easier than you may think.

Meet Sharon Bott, Director of Training with DNA Light Up.

“It wasn’t that anything bad had ever happened to me. It was simply that life had got to me and slowly worn me down. Life, and some of those insidious ingrained habits, beliefs and ways of thinking that I’d never consciously adopted and yet now seemed to have taken control and become part of me. And they were slowly robbing me of joy.

Habits like: People pleasing. Worrying about the opinions of others. Stressing about outcomes that I had no control over. Overthinking. Neglecting self-care. Doubting myself. Feeling guilty for I didn’t even know what. Taking things personally. Saying ‘yes’ when everything inside was screaming ‘no’. Trying to look good. (I say trying because I rarely succeeded.)

I was adept at covering up all this inner angst and showing a happy smiling face to the world. I’m pretty sure that nobody, except perhaps Husband, ever guessed. I knew though. And I didn’t like it.”

The quote is an excerpt from Sharon’s chapter in the book B.O.L.L.L.O.C.K.S. to That, I Choose to Shine! You can read her chapter here: BOLLOCKS TO IMPOSTOR SYNDROME: I know who I am, and I’ve fallen in love with all my messy human-ness.

Among other symptoms, Imposter Syndrome numbs our ability to feel.

A person won’t feel confident, regardless of what they achieve. Equally, they won’t experience creates joy or satisfaction of success. Instead, they’ll remain in a state of limbo, of disconnect, always waiting for their inadequacy to be found out…

The DNA Light Up journey reconnects people with their whole-being intelligence. Our SQ, our Knowing. From there, everything else falls naturally into place.

Meet successful financier and business consultant Alberto Rossi, who experienced DNA Light Up in 2017. Alberto lives in Mexico, and the sessions (Discover, Ngage, Activate and Light Up) all took place via video link.

He kindly shares his journey and the on-going effect of that work four years down the line:

“I got into situation where I was in feeling very unhappy with myself and with who I was and what I did to up to that point. I was feeling that I missed something and I didn’t know what…

Now I feel what I wasn’t feeling and that was actually the point. It was about what I wasn’t feeling when I got in touch with DNA Light Up and now I’m feeling it. I’m at peace. I have the ability to get myself back to peace. Back to being peace every time I need. To me it’s been like a walk back home, and I feel at home every time I use the tools that I learned through this wonderful, wonderful path with Mel and DNA Light Up.”
