“B.O.L.L.O.C.K.S. to That, I Choose to Shine!” is a collection of real-life stories that shine a light on the diverse and often debilitating pressure we all face today – and how it feels to break free from limitations
So here we all are… living in the modern age. We’ve got everything at our finger tips. Internet. Computers. Smart phones. Alexa to answer our questions and respond to our every whim. We can regulate light and heat in our homes even when we’re away. Home surveillance cameras mean we can keep intruders away and maintain contact with our pets. We can video-connect with friends and family across the world. There is always somewhere open for us to buy food and groceries, and we have the means to connect and share in all manner of ways at any time of the day or night.
So how come we feel so dissatisfied? Why is it that mental health issues such as depression, anxiety, bi-polar, PTSD, addictions, eating-disorders, self-esteem, isolation, addiction, co-dependency, abuse, self-esteem and other modern-day sufferings remain such an on-going and growing problem in a sophisticated society that allegedly has it all?
This is a book written by everyday people for everyday people. People like you and like me. People who’ve done their utmost to navigate the world and live their lives in the best way they know how. Who’ve followed advice (or not) from parents, teachers, friends and colleagues, who’ve perhaps sought help from therapists, counsellors, coaches and mentors. And yet… real and lasting fulfilment (or happiness, peace, freedom, relief or anything else) has somehow remained that elusive prize that’s always just out of reach – whether that’s by a whisker or by a country mile.
Chapter twelve is entitled BOLLOCKS TO BURNOUT, written by former Barrister Nikki Alderson
Employee burnout is on the rise.
“A recent report from Indeed found that employee burnout is on the rise: 52% of all workers are feeling burned out, up +9% from a pre-COVID survey. Employees of all ages and types are experiencing the impact of stress, fatigue, and mental health challenges.”
The quote is taken from a post written this summer for everyonesocial.com by Courtney Morrison, entitled 16 Employee Burnout Statistics You Can’t Ignore
We’ve been talking about DNA Light Up‘s book “B.O.L.L.O.C.K.S. to That, I Choose to Shine!” Today, we invite you to meet Nikki Alderson, a successful specialist coach, author and speaker working with female lawyers.
Her chapter is called: “BOLLOCKS TO BURNOUT: Now I live my life with authenticity and self-belief”
This is how it starts:

“The perfectionist in me was a hard and unforgiving task mistress. She would dismiss insecurities and anxieties, telling me to suck up the responsibility, the pressure, the desire to do the best job possible for clients, regardless of personal sacrifice or cost.”
